When Dave was eight, he began spending a lot time at his uncle, Frank Simmons',
ranch in Denver. Frank spent many hours teaching Dave all about his many Quarter and Walking
horses. Dave's build is a dead give-away that he was a tackle and tight end for George
Washington High School in Denver. His football laurels were many. However, horses were more
of a lasting interest than football.
Dave began noticing Saddlebreds at the horse show when he was showing his
own Quarter Horse mares. He was smitten. His big break came when Saddlebred trainer, Tom
Marcos, gave him a job grooming and riding for him in Denver. Dave was 16 and he had
already decided that his future would include these beautiful horses.
Over a period of time, Dave has had the unique opportunity to work with some of the best in the
Saddle Horse business. Over five years with Paul Priebe in Rochester, Minnesota, gave him
enviable experience. Don Bridges, Nelson Green, A.J. Jenkins, Barry Yount, and Vicki Vogel
all contributed to his education in the world of horses.
Dave returned to Arizona in 2002 to launch his own training facility.
Dave's excellent reputation precedes him not only as a trainer, but his ability to teach and
work with young people has gained him constant recognition.
